Bad Weather Provision


We will always make every effort to keep Heytesbury School open, but extreme weather or loss of essential services could necessitate a closure.

Please find below our emergency closure procedure:

  • Any decision not to open will be made between 7am – 7.30am.
  • We will only make an announcement if the school is to be closed.
  • An announcement will be made on this website.
  • An announcement will be made on BBC Wiltshire radio.
  • An email will be sent to parents.

Please do not ring the school for information unless absolutely necessary.

Gritting Policy

Please take note of our policy for gritting the pedestrian areas of our school during icy conditions.

Areas to be gritted

  • A pathway from pedestrian gate to the school office.
  • A pathway from pedestrian gate to Otters and Hedgehogs.
  • The kitchen door
  • The playground and steps

Areas NOT gritted

  •          Path and road in Greenlands
  •          Staff parking area

Person responsible for laying grit

  • Caretaker

When to grit

  • Ice or below freezing weather conditions or forecast of this
  • Snow forecast

Clearing snow

  • The Head Teacher will decide whether or not to clear snow after assessing the conditions
